MMNZ finds golden lining on cloud-covered Fieldays opener

Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand has doubled its Fieldays first-day sales record – just a year after the previous record was set.

Huge interest in the site was driven by the strong range on display – heralded as “our best line-up to date” by Reece Congdon, MMNZ Head of Marketing & Corporate Affairs. Showstoppers included three eye-catching iterations of the dynamic Triton ute and the still-fresh Eclipse Cross, which has proved an instant favourite since hitting the road late last year.

Heading the Triton trio, the limited Black Edition GLS 4WD, featuring a bespoke body kit, is a sleek and powerful beast with plenty of bite, which marks the return of the popular GLS model to the full range.

Standing head and shoulders above the rest, the Huntaway II – built from a Triton GLX-R 4WD – is a rare breed designed to turn heads. With its predecessor becoming one of Mitsubishi’s main attractions at last year’s Fieldays, the chance to head home in one of 20 strictly limited models proved too much for Kiwis looking for a ute whose ability matched their desire to tackle the toughest of terrain. The day closed with only a few units left up for grabs.

Looking to indulge ute lovers of all origins, MMNZ’s third sliced and diced Triton was built to rule the road – the radical Triton R Concept. Sitting just 50mm off the road and a whopping 230mm lower than the factory version, this slammed ute takes the full scope of Triton modifications to the other extreme. To the considerable disappointment of several visitors to the site, this one-off concept build is not for sale.

“It’s fun to push the boundaries with modifications and interesting to see the reaction it evokes,” said Mr Congdon. “Equally important are our staple models, such as Outlander, Pajero Sport, Eclipse Cross and ASX. This compelling line-up of vehicles, offering value, style and performance – backed by our market-leading Diamond Advantage warranty – is the foundation of our success.

“Fieldays provides a great opportunity to showcase our dynamic range to the public, and this early Fieldays result reflects the momentum that MMNZ continues to foster with year-on-year growth and vehicle development that reflects Kiwis’ diverse and changing lifestyles.”
